Asterina Phylactica
The original BISH artwork, crafted from beach cleans in Cornwall. Commissioned. ‘My late father, who was a marine biologist, spent days studying and monitoring the marine and coastal life of Pembrokeshire and, particularly, the peninsula of Devon and Cornwall. He and his friend and colleague Robin first identified and described Asterina Phylactica back in 1979.While tiny, measuring just 1.5 cm across, the starfish, which is a cushion star, has really distinctive and intricate colouring. I have attached a picture of an Asterina Phylactica. It is found all around the British Isles and is common in the rock pools of Devon and Cornwall. I think that Dad would have really liked the idea of making something unique, positive and special from the waste found on the coastline.’This limited-edition series comprises 150 prints, available in three sizes. Each print is meticulously digitized and printed in Cornwall, with bespoke mounts and frames handcrafted locally.Every BISH print is hand-signed and numbered, accompanied by a unique piece of beach plastic collected from the depicted area.
